Karim Publishes on Kenyan Paper

KARIM published an article, “A Half-Century of the Daily Nation,” that traces the 50-year history of the Nairobi-based daily, the leading African newspaper.  The piece appeared on TheIsmaili.com. link: http://www.theismaili.org/cms/962/A-half-century-of-the-Daily-Nation

Established by the Aga Khan in 1960, the media organization has expanded to include several newspapers and broadcasting stations in neighbouring East African countries.  It has a strong Web presence as well.  The Nation Media Group is a publicly traded company.

At the newspaper’s fiftieth anniversary celebration, the Aga Khan announced that a graduate school of communication would be established in Nairobi in January 2011.  Karim is a member of the advisory group that is developing the new institution.

SAMANTHA BURTON, MA2, is to work with the school in its inaugural months as a research fellow. She was awarded the nine-month position through the Aga Khan Foundation’s Fellowship in International Development Management.  She will conduct research contributing to curricular design and will assist in developing the school’s marketing strategy.  She is to travel to Nairobi in July.
